A Little Honesty. A Lot of Growth

If You Give a Mom Some Coffee…

If you give a mom some coffee she will mourn how little time she has to enjoy it

Once mourning how little time she has she will decide it’s time to make school lunches

She’ll pull out the lunch boxes and realize that they are still full of old food from yesterday

She will clear out the lunch boxes and see that the dishes need to be loaded in the dishwasher

While she is loading the dishes in the dishwasher, she will realize they ran out of dishwasher soap

Realizing she ran out of dishwasher soap, she will start a grocery list

While she’s making the grocery list she will remember she didn’t plan dinners for the week

So, she’ll start to quickly plan dinners for the week.

While planning dinners for the week, she will remember that tonight is the night of the school performance so they need to eat out

Remembering the school performance will send her into a panic because she didn’t finish the costume she promised her child, who has a solo and needs to arrive early to warm up

While panicking about the costume, she will remember her friend Jen offered to help her, but she said she didn’t need the help

Regretting not accepting Jen’s help will remind her that tomorrow she and Jen are responsible for bringing breakfast dishes to the ladies meeting at church

She starts adding those items to the grocery list

While adding those items to the grocery list, she will think about the study she has to facilitate at the same ladies meeting and how she has yet to review the materials.

Thinking about the materials will make her wonder what she did with them after the meeting two weeks ago.

Thinking of the meeting two weeks ago will make her realize that she promised to call Mollie, the new mom, and schedule a playdate

She forgot

Feeling sorry she didn’t call to schedule the playdate with Mollie will make her feel like a failure.

Feeling like a failure will make her think of the topic of the current ladies group study, which guide she still can’t find.

Thinking of the materials she’s lost will make her regret having agreed to lead the study in the first place.

Regretting all the commitments will make her think of that book (where’s that book?) about choosing your commitments wisely.

Thinking of the book will make her realize that summer is now over and all the free time to read that book she’d thought would come was consumed by all the activities she signed her kids up for to keep them entertained.

She’ll mourn the end of summer

While mourning the end of summer, she’ll notice the sun is rising

Noticing the sun rising will make her panic because she is still not dressed for work

She’ll consider what to wear and remember the dry cleaners called and said it had been two weeks and they would soon be selling her clothes if she didn’t come and pick them up

She’ll ad that to her to-do list for the day

Looking in her planner, she’ll see that she’s in charge of taking a meal to Carla who’s in the hospital. She signed up for that a week ago.

Now the day has come and she hasn’t decided what to make or how to find time before the school performance to get the dinner over to the hospital

Thinking about the hospital will make her remember that she really needs to schedule an appointment to have that nagging pain in her chest checked out. After all, it’s been 5 months since it started

Her chest will start hurting

The alarm goes off

Time for the kids to get up

The lunches still aren’t made

She’s still not dressed

Her chest will hurt more

And hearing the alarm clock go off will make her realize that she needs a cup of coffee

There’s no way she’s making it through this day without it.
